From Back of the Closet to Business Success: Porsha Garrett's Fashion Journey
Porsha Garrett, founder of Baackofthecloset LLC, sat down with My Networking Apparel to share how childhood memories in her mother's closet inspired a mission to make designer fashion accessible to everyone.
A Childhood Dream Turned Business Reality
"Baackofthecloset started with me playing in my mother's closet as a child," Porsha recalls. "She was a seamstress who did fashion shows. The further to the back of the closet I got, I was seeing beautiful dresses and pop out fabrics." This early exposure to fashion, combined with her mother's handmade clothing expertise, planted the seeds for what would become her business mission: bringing quality brand items to customers at affordable prices.
From Retail Experience to Entrepreneurship
With a degree in business management and decades of retail experience, including work in a photo studio for a major brand, Porsha built Baackofthecloset as a one-woman powerhouse. "I'm the entire franchise!" she says proudly. "I take all my own product photos and do edits, I make and design all of my own marketing materials from flyers to business cards and mailers."
Beyond Fashion: Sharing Knowledge
Porsha's entrepreneurial spirit extends beyond retail. She authored "Get Noticed Today: A Guide for Social Media and Marketing," available at Barnes and Noble, sharing her expertise in digital marketing and branding. Her creative ventures also include designing mugs, T-shirts, and creating content on TikTok.
Business Philosophy
Her advice to other entrepreneurs? "Never stop advertising your talents! Put it in their face, because someone is looking for what you do!" This philosophy has driven her success across multiple platforms and ventures.
